She made her major debut in 1996 with Ai no Sainō (Talent of Love). She followed with a string of big-hit singles such as “DNA,” “1/2” (the opening theme for the anime Rurouni Kenshin), and “Sakura.” In addition to her solo activities, she has demonstrated a multi-faceted talent through band projects, songwriting, authoring picture books, and singing for commercials, making Makoto Kawamoto active in a wide range of fields. She is celebrating her 25th anniversary since debut. This year, prompted by the CD release of the valuable pre-debut demo collection No.1 Hippie Power, the distribution of remastered versions of all recordings from her Sony Music era, and the consecutive release of original music videos on her official YouTube channel, she has been re-evaluated by a broad generation and is attracting significant attention.
