CHEHON, who began his career in Osaka in the early 2000s and has built a standout career as one of the Japanese reggae scene’s DeeJays, makes his first appearance at Billboard Live Osaka together with BAGDAD RIDDIM SECTION, a powerhouse reggae band also from the Kansai region. Focusing on a distinctive flow built around the skill of “storytelling while rhyming,” he scored a hit with the title track of his debut EP, Midori (Green), released in 2006. After stepping into the major scene in 2008, he continued to drop memorable tunes, including the acclaimed “Inpakuto” (韻破句徒). At one point he even based himself in Jamaica to gain experience in reggae’s homeland, sharpening his impactful style further. In recent years he has also appeared in rap battles, once again proving his high prowess, and in 2021 he released his fifth album, THECULMINATION. As TikTok videos of a live collaboration with BAGDAD RIDDIM SECTION featuring “Inpakuto” drew attention, there’s no doubt the night will be filled with hot vibes to mark the start of the New Year.
