SAUDADE TO BRAZIL
Sadao Watanabe
Sadao Watanabe
Overview
In 2023, as he celebrates his 90th birthday, the legendary saxophonist Sadao Watanabe—who has embodied lifelong activity—will once again focus on Brazilian music, which he has pursued for many years. He began his career as a jazz musician at the age of 18, and when he developed an interest in Brazilian music, he went to Brazil alone, recording with local musicians and actively incorporating Brazilian music into his own and introducing it to Japan. His achievements have been recognized by the Brazilian government, and he is a recipient of Brazil's highest honor, the Order of Rio Branco. Together with a trusted group of fellow musicians, look forward to an exquisite performance that carries his love for Brazil.
