As a director, he produced numerous classic dramas, including “It’s Time” and “The Terauchi Kantarō Family,” and he was also active as a lyricist, novelist, and essayist before his sudden death in 2006. Kyoko Koizumi, who calls him her mentor, and singer‑songwriter Mariko Hamada have continued since 2008 with a stage that conveys the world of his essay My Last Song, which revolves around the fourteen-year-long writing of “the song I want to hear at the final moment of life,” through Hamada’s piano and singing and Koizumi’s narration. This Billboard Live performance marks the first in about five years. A jewel of a night awaits, quietly and gently etching into the heart the nostalgia of Showa-era classics and the feelings Kuze Mitsuhiko poured into those songs.
