Michel Camilo ~piano solo~
Michel Camilo
Overview
Renowned pianist Michel Camilo, a Dominican Republic native who excels in both jazz and classical realms with exceptional rhythm and overwhelming technique, is set to perform a precious solo concert at Billboard Live! Born in 1954 in Santo Domingo, Camilo was hailed as a child prodigy from an early age and became a pianist representing his homeland in his teens. He moved to the United States in 1979, and his original composition "Why Not" was picked up by Manhattan Transfer, marking his rise. His major-label debut album, "Michel Camilo," released in 1988, topped the Billboard Jazz chart for eight consecutive weeks. In 2000, he won the Latin Grammy Award for the collaboration "España" with flamenco guitarist Tomatito; in 2003 and 2006 he won Grammy Awards. Don’t miss this premium stage to experience up close Camilo’s virtuoso playing, the essence of a performer who has thrived across genres such as jazz, Latin, and classical.
