J-Squad
Overview
J-Squad, a special band that brings together sharp Japanese jazz musicians active on the world’s frontlines, returns after five years. Trumpeter Takuya Kuroda, who has released solo albums on US Blue Note and Concord labels and attracting worldwide attention, along with Takeshi Obayashi, who also serves as the MISIA Band’s musical director in addition to his work with the “TBN” Trio; Kyoshi Nakamura, a core member of the Japan–US mixed unit “New Century Jazz Quintet”; Keita Ogawa, a Grammy-winning musician who also shines with Snarky Puppy and Banda Magda; and Tomoaki Baba, who performed the saxophone for the protagonist in the animated film “BLUE GIANT”—these notable Japanese musicians come together. They also contributed the opening theme for TV Asahi’s “News Station,” and their tour accompanying the second album “J-Squad II” was a success and drew attention. As the five of them resume activities after several years, their electrifying performance is not to be missed.
