Maki Nomiya, the “Queen of the Original Shibuya-kei,” has been carrying on annually since 2013 with her music project “Maki Nomiya Sings Shibuya-kei”—a series dedicated to reviving Shibuya-kei and its roots’ timeless songs. The latest show, marking its 10th anniversary, centers on the theme of “Kayōkyoku” (classic Japanese pop). Inviting as a guest a singer who has swept the kayōkyoku world and remains active today, Maki Nomiya will elegantly perform kayōkyoku that has become a boom not only in City Pop but also domestically and internationally.

The Osaka performance features guest Miki Hirayama, a kayōkyoku diva who has scored hits such as “Manatsu no Dekigoto” (lyrics by Jun Hashimoto, composed by Kyōhei Tsutsumi) and this year marks her 52nd anniversary since debut. The show’s program is built from songs by hit-makers and musicians connected to Shibuya-kei, including Kyōhei Tsutsumi and Jun Hashimoto — “Maki Nomiya Sings Shibuya-kei Kayōkyoku.” We invite you to look forward to which kayōkyoku Nomiya will choose and how she will perform with the special guest.
