A four-piece band formed by Shukei Tamaki (vocals, guitar) from Hachijōjima, Tokyo, and Seijun Kato (guitar), who met in college, along with Ayako Takeda (bass) and drummer Yutaka Yanagisawa—MONO NO AWARE—has announced a Tokyo–Osaka Billboard Live Tour. For this show, they will deliver a special lineup with Naoya Shimizu as a supporting musician, adding piano and other keyboard instruments.

Their sound sits on pop’s footing while hinting at a wide range of backgrounds, with melodies that defy expectations and lyrics rich in wordplay, crafting a free, genre-defying music. They appeared on Fuji Rock Festival’s Rookie A Go-Go stage in 2016, and since then have continued to perform at numerous music festivals while steadily releasing recordings. In June they released the new album The Buffet, their fifth overall and first in about three years. Bassist Ayako Takeda, who had been on hiatus since last year, has returned, and with the album in hand they completed a tour that included Taiwan. In August they added a show at Tokyo’s Liquid Room, and in November they also announced an additional show on Hachijō Island, underscoring MONO NO AWARE’s ongoing evolution as a live band. This rare club performance is once again on the schedule.
