Born in Hiroshima and now based in Montreal, the singer-songwriter Jonah Yano makes his Billboard Live onstage debut. He grew up with the piano and guitar, and in 2016 began composing and recording on his cellphone. That same year he moved to Toronto, and after releasing his own songs online he quickly attracted attention from the local music scene, going on to collaborate with artists such as BADBADNOTGOOD and release his debut album in 2020. He has drawn notice from renowned figures across genres, including the late Virgil Abloh, Gilles Peterson, and Benji B, and has won over music fans in Japan as well, even touring here. This October he releases a new album, Jonah Yano & The Heavy Loop, and his eagerly anticipated Japan performances—carrying the new material—promise an evening of experimental, whimsical sounds and his organic, heartfelt vocal craft.
