Yuji Toriyama, one of Japan’s premier guitarists, formed the group PYRAMID with his close ally drummer Akira Jinbo and pianist Hirotaka Izumi. Even after Izumi’s sudden passing in 2021, the two continued the group, releasing new songs “Night Flight” and “Brand-New Summer” last year. They are actively pursuing the release of a new album.

They are strongly influenced by 1970s soul and funk, and those roots are filtered through the two of them to shape PYRAMID’s music into a contemporary sound. In this live performance, they will feature vocal tunes influenced by those era-defining songs, including The Crusaders’ “Street Life,” Ramsey Lewis’s “Sun Goddess,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Runnin’,” and Quincy Jones’s “I’ll Be Good To You,” performed in a band setup.
