Japan's next-generation musician Hasegawa Hakushi makes his debut at Billboard Live to kick off the New Year. In 2017 he released the free digital EP “iPhone Six Plus,” and in 2018 he made his CD debut with the EP “草木萌動” (Plants Sprouting). The following year, 2019, brought his first album “エアにに” (Air Ni Ni), and in 2020 he released the acoustic cover album “夢の骨が襲いかかる！” (Dream Bones Attack!), drawing attention for his cross-genre, distinctive musical expression. After appearances at Porter Robinson’s online festival “Secret Sky” and Flying Lotus’s streaming program “THE HIT,” in 2023 he signed with the cutting-edge label 〈Brainfeeder〉—home to Thundercat and Hiatus Kaiyote—as the first Japanese artist to do so. He released the album “魔法学校” (“Magic School”) to high praise from both domestic and international audiences. He has also appeared on the popular YouTube channel “THE FIRST TAKE” and contributed music to 〈noir kei ninomiya〉’s Paris collection, broadening his work across genres. Although Hasegawa usually performs solo, this time he will be joined by guitarist Tokutaro Hosoi and percussionist Hitomi Aikawa for a special lineup where electronic sounds intersect with live performance.
