Tower of Power, the Bay Area–based iconic funk/soul band and a pioneering force since 1968, returns to Billboard Live for the first time in about two years. Led by Emilio Castillo and Stephen “Doc” Kupka, the group formed in Oakland, California, and as the 1970s began they dominated the era with hits like “What Is Hip?” and “You’re Still a Young Man,” while also contributing to works by Aerosmith, Elton John, Little Feat, and others. In recent years, they released their first holiday EP, It’s Christmas, in 2024, and last year keyboardist/vocalist Mike Jarell rejoined the band in place of Roger Smith’s retirement. This year, in its 58th year, they’ll continue to be vigorous and dynamic.
