Formed in 2022 around Suchmos’ keyboardist TAIHEI, the four-piece band SAI makes its debut at Billboard Live Osaka. The lineup features Yusuke Sase (Tp), Keigo Iwami (Wb), and Chisho Matsuura (Dr), known as a member of SHAG and who has performed in Cory Henry and Erykah Badu’s Japan tours. Centered on jazz, they blend blues, classical, house, ambient and other diverse essences to pursue a sound that transcends genres. In 2023 they released the album “YELLOW,” followed by the EP “An Airship” (2024) featuring Daichi Yamamoto, YONCE, and Tomoaki Baba, and the EP “Lims” (2026) featuring Kojoe and Rama Pantera, continuing to develop their musicality. Live performances, where meticulous ensemble and improvisation meld, have earned high praise across the country, with sold-out shows, making them a leading presence in the Japanese instrumental scene. The live experience—a groove that lives within delicate tones and an ensemble whose expression changes moment by moment—is the appeal of SAI’s performances, allowing listeners to resonate with those “moments” that cannot be fully savored on recordings.
