Momoko Kikuchi 40th Anniversary Live Back to the “Ocean Side”
Momoko Kikuchi
Overview
In 1984, she made her screen debut as the heroine in the film Pantsu no Ana, and in the same year she debuted as a singer in Seishun no Ijiwaru. This year, Momoko Kikuchi is celebrating her 40th anniversary since debut and makes her first appearance on the Billboard Live stage! She rose to popularity as an idol, and in 1985, at the age of 17, she performed at Nippon Budokan, setting the then-youngest-ever concert record. Furthermore, the release that year, "Graduation-GRADUATION-," marked her first No.1 on the Oricon Weekly Chart, and since then she has topped the Oricon Weekly Chart for seven consecutive releases. Since debuting as an idol singer, she has received numerous awards, including the 26th Japan Record Award for New Artist, the Japan Record Sales Award, and the Elan d’Or Award for New Artist. The worldview created by the composer Tetsuji Hayashi, who wrote almost all of her songs at the time, was unlike anything typical of 1980s idol songs, but in recent years it has been reevaluated, driven largely by the overseas boom in Japanese city pop. Furthermore, in July 2021, all of those songs from that era were released on music streaming services, and Momoko Kikuchi was featured in producer/DJ Night Tempo’s popular re-edit series Showa Groove, captivating listeners across generations and borders. Enjoy her music to your heart’s content.
