Kamasi Washington, a Los Angeles-born multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader, returns to Billboard Live for the first time in six years. He is known for four releases to date, which are widely regarded as among the most acclaimed musical works of this century. The score he composed for the short film As Told To G/D Thyself was widely acclaimed at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival; in 2020 he contributed the music to Michelle Obama's documentary Becoming, earning Emmy and Grammy nominations. Also in 2020, he formed the supergroup Dinner Party with longtime friends and collaborators Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and 9th Wonder, and their EP Dinner Party: Dessert was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album. In 2021, he continued cross-genre activity by contributing a cover of "My Friend of Misery" to Metallica's The Metallica Blacklist. Touring worldwide and sharing stages with Kendrick Lamar, Florence + The Machine, and Herbie Hancock, his otherworldly, energy-filled live performances are a must-see for all music fans.
