Maki Nomiya
Overview
A rescheduled anniversary concert for Maki Nomiya, who turned 60 in March 2020, has been confirmed. The special live show will feature two male vocalists who represent Japan’s music scene, whom she admires and with whom she has collaborated many times.
On August 19, Masayuki Suzuki, who Nomiya has long looked up to as a senior in the industry and who duetted “Shibuya de 5ji” on her solo album Man and Woman — Maki Nomiya Sings French Shibuya-kei (2016), will appear. On August 20, Ken Yokoyama (Crazy Ken Band), who has sung many songs with Nomiya including the Pizzicato Five-era track “Go Around the Earth Seven and a Half Times” (2000), will also be on the bill.
The concert that was initially planned for March 12, her birthday, had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nomiya has stated, “I’ve decided not to age until I can perform the 60th-birthday live.” For her 60th-birthday look, she plans to sing in red lipstick and a red dress. What kind of performance will unfold with the two leading vocalists wearing black sunglasses? Please look forward to this lavish collaboration stage, from its production to the song choices.
