From Philadelphia, the legendary hip-hop group The Roots will celebrate Billboard Live's 15th anniversary with a long-awaited concert in Japan. Formed around MC Black Thought and drummer Questlove, they have, since indie releases of their debut album Organix in 1993, stuck to live instrumentation, earning widespread praise for their creative instrumental performances, thoughtful and intelligent lyrics, and spectacular live shows. They have absorbed a wide range of genres—from freestyle jazz to hard rock and electro—and have been nominated for six Grammys. In recent years, they have also served as the house band on a popular American TV program, becoming a widely known presence in American households.
