Kyoto Jazz Sextet featuring Takeo Moriyama
Overview
Shuya Okino, a DJ and also a composer for Kyoto Jazz Massive, launched the project Kyoto Jazz Sextet with a premise of fully live performance and analog recording as the foundation to express contemporary jazz. The group is staging an anniversary concert to celebrate The Room’s 30th anniversary. Since their debut in 2015, Kyoto Jazz Sextet has pursued a variety of missions, including the fusion of jazz and club music, the reevaluation of the new mainstream/modal jazz, a response from Japan to US jazz, cross-generational collaboration, and cross-industry exchanges between music and photography. In April this year, they released a new work, SUCCESSION, featuring Iwao Moriyama, the pinnacle of Japanese jazz drumming, which drew attention as a cross-generational collaboration. Now, for The Room’s 30th anniversary, they will perform with a special lineup. For each set, the Kyoto Jazz Sextet’s hits at The Room will be drummed by Midorin from SOIL&“PIMP”SESSIONS. And after a free-jazz section, while the fever from one of Japan’s largest domestic outdoor festivals still lingers, the collaboration between Kyoto Jazz Sextet and legendary drummer Iwao Moriyama will unfold once again. As Kyoto Jazz Sextet continues to evolve with every show, welcoming Midorin and Iwao Moriyama, what kind of stage will they reveal? Please witness the birth of a new legend with your own eyes.
