“Maki Nomiya, the ‘Queen of the Original Shibuya-kei,’ has been carrying on annually since 2013 with her music project that ‘sings the great songs of Shibuya-kei and its roots,’ the series Maki Nomiya, Sings Shibuya-kei. This latest performance marks the 10th-anniversary theme: kayōkyoku. For this show, two singers who have swept the kayōkyoku world and are still active will be invited as guests, and Maki Nomiya will elegantly perform kayōkyoku songs that have become a boom not only in city pop but also domestically and internationally.

Iyo Matsumoto, appearing on Day 1 in Tokyo, debuted in the same year as Nomiya. She is the original idol of the ‘Flower 82 Group,’ known for hits like ‘Sentimental Journey’ (lyrics by Reiko Yukawa, composed by Kyōhei Tsutsumi). On Day 2 in Tokyo and in Osaka, Miki Hirayama will appear; she has produced hits such as ‘Manatsu no Dekigoto’ (lyrics by Jun Hashimoto, composed by Kyōhei Tsutsumi) and this year celebrates her 52nd anniversary since debut, making her a diva of the kayōkyoku world. And both are singers who share the common trait of being ‘the voice loved by Kyōhei Tsutsumi,’ one of the root composers of Shibuya-kei.

The program, comprised of songs by hitmakers and musicians linked to Shibuya-kei—Kyōhei Tsutsumi, Jun Hashimoto, and others—exists under the title ‘Maki Nomiya, Sings Shibuya-kei Kayōkyoku.’ We look forward to seeing which kayōkyoku Nomiya will choose and how she will perform with the special guests.
