Born in Hiroshima and now based in Montreal, the singer-songwriter Jonah Yano makes his Billboard Live debut. From childhood he has been familiar with piano and guitar, and in 2016 he began composing and recording on his cellphone. In the same year he moved to Toronto, and after posting his own songs online he quickly drew attention from the local music scene; through collaborations with artists such as BADBADNOTGOOD, he released his debut album in 2020. He has drawn notice from prominent figures across genres, including the late Virgil Abloh, Gilles Peterson, and Benji B, and has won the hearts of music fans here in Japan as well, with Japan tours. This highly anticipated performance in Japan, carrying the new album “Jonah Yano & The Heavy Loop” to be released this October, promises a special evening overflowing with his experimental and whimsical sound, and with his organically soulful vocal expression.
