The Los Angeles-born multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader Kamasi Washington returns to Billboard Live for the first time in six years. He is known for four albums released to date, which are widely regarded as some of the most acclaimed musical works of this century. The short film score he composed for the short film As Told To G/D Thyself was widely praised at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, and in 2020 he wrote the music for Michelle Obama’s documentary Becoming, earning Emmy and Grammy nominations. Also in 2020, together with his longtime friend and collaborator Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and Ninth Wonder, he formed the supergroup ＜Dinner Party＞, and their EP Dinner Party: Dessert was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album. In 2021, he continued to cross genres by contributing a cover of “My Friend of Misery” to Metallica’s The Metallica Blacklist project. Having toured the world and shared stages with Kendrick Lamar, Florence and the Machine, Herbie Hancock, and others, his otherworldly, energy-filled performances are a must-see for music fans everywhere.
