Overview
An icon who helped define the hip-hop/neo-soul era, Common, whose Japan visit—the first in about ten years—drew huge buzz the moment it was announced, will also be adding extra shows in response to the demand. Born in Chicago in 1972, the rapper/musician/actor/writer/activist debuted in 1992 with the album Can I Borrow A Dollar? under the name Common Sense. He has collaborated with Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Q-Tip, J Dilla, Bilal, and others as a member of the legendary Soulquarians. In 2000, he made his major-label debut with his fourth album Like Water for Chocolate and has since won three Grammy Awards. In 2015, he won Golden Globes and an Academy Award for the theme song “Glory” (co-written with John Legend) for the film Selma. Furthermore, in 2017 he won an Emmy for the song “Letter To The Free,” used in the documentary 13th—The Thirteenth Amendment—making him the only rapper to have won all of America's major entertainment prizes (Grammy, Oscar, Golden Globe, Emmy). Last year he released the collaborative album The Auditorium Vol. 1 with Pete Rock, and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the acclaimed Be (released in 2005). Beyond these milestones, Common continues his creative journey. Experience the evolution of a true icon live.
