Next-generation Japanese musician Hasegawa Hakushi makes their first appearance at Billboard Live to kick off the New Year. In 2017 they released the free digital EP “iPhone Six Plus,” and in 2018 made their CD debut with the EP “草木萌動.” The following year, 2019, saw the release of their debut album “Air ni ni,” and in 2020 they issued an acoustic cover album “夢の骨が襲いかかる！” (Dream Bones Attack!), drawing attention for a distinctive musical expression that crosses genres. After appearances at Porter Robinson’s online festival “Secret Sky” and Flying Lotus’s streaming program “THE HIT,” they signed in 2023 with the cutting-edge label 〈Brainfeeder〉, home to Thundercat and Hiatus Kaiyote, becoming the first Japanese artist to do so. They released the album “魔法学校” (Magic School), earning high praise from both domestic and international audiences. Moreover, they have appeared on the popular YouTube channel “THE FIRST TAKE” and contributed to the music for noir kei ninomiya’s Paris collection, expanding their cross-genre activities. Although Hasegawa usually performs solo, this time they will be joined by guitarist Tokutarō Hosoi and percussionist Hitomi Aikawa for a special lineup where electronic sounds intersect with live performance, making its premiere at this show.
