The RH Factor reunion
tribute to Roy Hargrove
Overview
Led by Roy Hargrove, the innovative project The RH Factor, also known as "Roy Hargrove’s The RH Factor," is bringing its highly anticipated performances to Japan. Its sound, which freely fused jazz, R&B, hip hop, and funk, made a huge impact on the scene through the 2003 landmark album Hard Groove. D’Angelo, Q-Tip, Common, Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, and other stellar artists participated, drawing enthusiastic support across genres. Music rooted in rhythm yet rich in harmony and improvisation has transcended eras and continues to exert a strong influence. Now, under Roy Hargrove Legacy, founded by Roy’s wife Aida Brandes-Hargrove and daughter Kamala Hargrove, the original members—including Keith Anderson, who has known Roy since their student days; Jason JT Thomas and Bobby Sparks, who supported him from the earliest days; Reggie Washington and Willie Jones III, who participated on his first album—have gathered. Furthermore, to join one of the figures who embodies the group’s sound, Renee Neufville of Zhané, reviving the spirit and one-of-a-kind groove that Roy left behind into the modern era. Additionally, Roy is an artist who has built a long, deep relationship with Japan, dating back to the early 1990s mixed-artist project "The Jazz Networks." He has repeatedly come to Japan in various formations—Quintet, Big Band, The RH Factor—fostering a special bond with Japanese audiences. Please come and experience live once again the groove and spirit Roy cherished at this venue.
