Armenian-born pianist/composer Tigran Hamasyan will make his one-night-only on-stage debut at Billboard Live Tokyo. With an innovative sound that fuses jazz, progressive rock, and the traditional music of his homeland Armenia, filtered through his own distinctive sensibility, he stands as a truly unique presence in the contemporary jazz scene. From early on, his talents have drawn global attention after winning the piano competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2003, and then taking the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition the following year. In recent years he has released his latest work, The Bird of a Thousand Voices, which has drawn attention for its expansive, cross-disciplinary worldview spanning music, theater, and film. The prodigious talent, praised by Herbie Hancock, Brad Mehldau, and the late Chick Corea, will showcase his overwhelming piano playing and profound sonic world.
