As a member of the Carpenters, Richard Carpenter—the man who has given birth to timeless songs that left a mark on music history—will make his first appearance to commemorate Billboard Live’s 15th anniversary. From his youth, his musical talent blossomed, and in the Carpenters, formed with his sister Karen, he debuted in 1969. After releasing “A Distant Shadow,” he quickly rose to stardom, becoming a defining figure of 1970s pop. Since then, songs such as “Yesterday Once More,” “Superstar,” and “Top of the World” continue to captivate listeners around the world without losing their luster. He has also gained high regard for his songwriting and arranging, including six nominations for the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement. In October 2021, he released Piano Songbook, his first solo piano album and his first new work in 23 years. With his Japan visit fast approaching, it has been decided that Richard’s daughters Tracy and Mindy will join as vocalists for this performance! They will sing Karen’s parts, drawing from the Carpenter’s era-spanning repertoire. Please enjoy to the fullest this precious stage where these jewel-like masterpieces are rendered by the legend.
