Five-time Grammy Award–winning bassist/singer-songwriter Esperanza Spalding (エスペランサ) has announced a Japan tour, her first in about seven years! Her work, honed within the lineage and tradition of North American jazz, weaves together not only a variety of instruments, improvisation, singing, composition, and poetry, but also dance, therapeutic research, storytelling, and nurturing love as a daughter, an aunt, and a friend. Across a career that has seen eight albums released to date, she has won five Grammys in total, including Best New Artist and Best Jazz Vocal Album. Her activities extend beyond music: in Portland, Oregon, she serves as co-founder and curator of Prismid Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that runs a workshop space, and with her dance company <Off Brand gOdds> and <Songwrights Apothecary Lab>, she leads performances, workshops, education, and research in therapeutic arts. This August, a collaborative album with the living legend of Brazilian music Milton Nascimento has also been announced.
