Tower of Power, the Bay Area–born iconic funk/soul band and pioneers that have kept touring without a break since their 1968 formation, will return to Billboard Live for the first time in about two years. Formed in Oakland, California and led by Emilio Castillo and Steven “Doc” Kupka, they rose to dominance in the 1970s with hits like “What Is Hip?” and “You’re Still A Young Man,” while also contributing to works by Aerosmith, Elton John, Little Feat, and others. In recent years, they released their first holiday EP, It’s Christmas, in 2024, and last year, following Roger Smith’s retirement, keyboardist/vocalist Mike Jerel rejoined the band. Now in its 58th year, they show no signs of slowing down—continuing to perform with energy and dynamism.
