Overview
Since forming in 1968, Tower of Power—an iconic Bay Area pioneer of funk and soul—has continued touring without a break, and they return to Billboard Live for the first time in about two years. Formed in Oakland, California, around Emilio Castillo and Stephen “Doc” Kupka, they swept the era in the 1970s with hits like “What Is Hip?” and “You’re Still a Young Man,” and by contributing to works by Aerosmith, Elton John, and Little Feat, among others. In recent years, they released their first holiday EP, It’s Christmas, in 2024; last year, with Roger Smith’s retirement, keyboardist/vocalist Mike Jerel returned to the band. Now in its 58th year, they will undoubtedly keep performing with energy and dynamism. Experience the powerhouse groove delivered by their rich horn sound, tight rhythms, and thrilling vocals on stage.
