Van Dyke Parks
Overview
Centered on the enduring charm of classic American music, the maestro Van Dyke Parks, who has crafted a distinctive style, will present his first Japan tour in 12 years—and his final performance in Japan. Due to popular demand, additional shows have been added! In addition, Inara George is set to appear on stage as a special guest at Billboard Live Tokyo on March 26 (Wed) and March 27 (Thu).
He has long been active as a producer, songwriter, and arranger, and is known as a key figure behind the Beach Boys’ landmark album Smile. From his childhood as a child actor, he demonstrated exceptional musical talent, and began his career after meeting Terry Melcher. Later he deepened his friendship with Brian Wilson and went on to co‑write many of the Beach Boys’ famous songs, including Smile. While continuing to create works that were acclaimed as a dazzling fusion of Hollywood film music and folk, he also produced albums for Randy Newman, Ry Cooder, and Little Feat. Moreover, he participated as a songwriter and arranger on Happy End’s last album, recorded in LA, underscoring his deep ties with Japan and having a major influence on Haruomi Hosono and Eiichi Ohtaki. With Hosono, he has shared live performances and contributed to tributes, forging bonds that endure to this day. For you, the “Once In a Lifetime Experience,” the final live performance by a maestro who arguably laid the foundations of modern music—enjoy it up close and personal.
