Since forming in 1968, the Bay Area-born iconic funk/soul band Tower of Power has never stopped touring, and they’ll make a return to Billboard Live for the first time in about two years. Led by Emilio Castillo and Stephen “Doc” Kupka, the band formed in Oakland, California, and by the 1970s they dominated the era with hits such as “What Is Hip?” and “You’re Still A Young Man,” while also contributing to works by Aerosmith, Elton John, Little Feat, and others. In recent years, they released their first holiday EP, It’s Christmas, in 2024; last year, with Roger Smith’s retirement, keyboardist/vocalist Mike Jerel made a comeback to the band. This year, in their 58th year, they will no doubt continue to perform with vigor and dynamism.
