Mohini Dey
Mohini Dei
Overview
An astonishingly technical playing style has Mohini Dey, a genius bassist drawing worldwide attention, making her long-awaited debut at Billboard Live! Born in 1996 in Mumbai, India, Mohini was influenced by her musician parents and grew up listening to Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, and others. She began playing her father’s handmade bass from the age of three, and astonishingly started her professional career at nine. She first made a name for herself by participating in the works of film composer A.R. Rahman, known for Slumdog Millionaire, and alongside her own music production and band activities, that collaborative relationship has lasted eight and a half years. Furthermore, through YouTube and social media, her extraordinary technique has drawn attention, and she has begun receiving collaboration offers from top musicians including Quincy Jones; in Japan she served as tour support for B'z. Music Radar named her the only female bassist among the “Top 10 Bassists of the 21st Century,” and she was selected by <Forbes India> as “the most successful musician under 30.” She released her first album last year, and her upward trajectory shows no signs of slowing. Mohini’s spectacular show is not to be missed.
