Tower of Power, the Bay Area icon and pioneer of funk/soul, who have toured non-stop since forming in 1968, will make their return to Billboard Live for the first time in about two years. Formed in Oakland, California, led by Emilio Castillo and Stephen “Doc” Kupka, they burst onto the scene in the 1970s with hits such as What Is Hip? and You’re Still a Young Man, and through their contributions to works by Aerosmith, Elton John, Little Feat, and others. In recent years, they released their first holiday EP, It’s Christmas, in 2024, and last year, with Roger Smith’s retirement, keyboardist/vocalist Mike Jerel rejoined the band.
