Bernard Purdie
Bernard Pardy
Overview
Bernard Purdie, hailed as “the drummer who has participated in the most recordings on Earth,” returns to the Billboard Live stage for the first time in about nine years! Born and raised in Maryland, USA, he began his career as a session drummer in New York in his twenties. He broke through after contributing to James Brown’s “Ain’t That A Groove” and joining King Curtis’s band, the Kingpins. From 1970, he served as bandleader for Aretha Franklin, and since then he has left his mark on countless artists’ works across genres, including Steely Dan and Miles Davis. A true groove master who has helped sustain music history and continues to exert a profound influence on future generations, his virtuosity promises to be a marvel to witness up close.
