Mohini Dey
Mohini Dei Pronounced: moh-HEE-nee day
Overview
Mohini Day, a prodigy bassist whose dazzlingly technical playing has drawn worldwide attention, makes her long-awaited debut at Billboard Live. Born in 1996 in Mumbai, India, Mohini grew up influenced by her musician parents and listened to Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, and others. She began playing the handmade bass her father crafted when she was three, but she started her professional career at the age of nine. She first rose to prominence after taking part in the works of film composer A.R. Rahman, known for Slumdog Millionaire, and while pursuing her own music production and band activities, their collaboration lasted eight and a half years. Furthermore, her extraordinary technique has become a hot topic on YouTube and social media, and top musicians such as Quincy Jones have offered collaborations. In Japan she served as tour support for B'z. MusicRadar, the music publication, named her the only female bassist among the Top 10 Bassists of the 21st Century, and Forbes India named her the most successful musician under 30. Last year she released her first album, and her momentum shows no sign of stopping. Mohini's spectacular show is not to be missed.
