Maki Nomiya Birthday Live 2025
~Singing the New Wave~
Maki Nomiya
Overview
“A Special Live by ‘Maki Nomiya of the New Wave’ Before She Was Called the ‘Queen of Shibuya-kei’!”
Billboard Live’s 12th year will feature a birthday concert for Maki Nomiya, a special show themed around her musical roots in the 1980s New Wave.
As is clear from her 1981 debut, Pink no Kokoro, a New Wave album that drew enthusiastic support from fans, Nomiya was among those most influenced by the music, fashion, and style of the New Wave and techno-pop that swept the world at the time.
On her 2025 birthday, marking 44 years since her debut, she will perform New Wave songs that return to her origins.
This time, Keigo Oyamada of Cornelius, who guest‑appeared at the spring 2024 Billboard Live concert to wide acclaim, and Hajime Tachibana, formerly of The Plastics and a driving force in Japan’s New Wave scene whom Nomiya has long admired, will join as guests. The two longtime friends will celebrate Nomiya’s birthday with a luxurious live stage—definitely not to be missed.
The band will feature Hirohisa Horie (also a member of Cornelius), Seiichi Nagai (from TESTSET and QUBIT), Kenichi Shirane (of GREAT3), and Kei Takakuwa (of Curly Giraffe)—forming 2025’s strongest and most up-to-date New Wave lineup for this lavish show. Please come and enjoy the “Maki Nomiya of the New Wave” before she was ever called the “Queen of Shibuya-kei.”
〈Maki Nomiya's Comment〉
Last year’s birthday show featured guest Ryōhei Shima from The Dress Codes, and with a rock‑oriented selection I fulfilled one of my teenage dreams of being a rocker girl. This time, I want to present the me who was a “New Wave girl” long before being called the “Queen of Shibuya-kei.” I think this will be a show that reveals how the current Maki Nomiya was shaped. And this time, I’m welcoming Hajime Tachibana of The Plastics as a guest to deliver a stylish stage, showcasing the New Wave band that most influenced me in the 1980s—in music, fashion, and style. I’d be happy for you to come and witness another dream coming true on my birthday.
