Kazuma Miura Electronic Sextet, a project launched in 2024 by the world-renowned bandoneonist Kazuma Miura, has announced a three-venue Billboard Live tour. Paying homage to Piazzolla’s music and life, this work brings together musicians of extraordinary technique as it pursues an ideal ensemble. Centered on Miura—who studied under Néstor Marconi, the pinnacle of Piazzolla’s lineage, and who became Japan’s first and youngest runner-up at the 2008 Piazzolla Competition—the lineup also includes Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal solo concertmaster Ishida Yasunao and Mao Sone, a rising jazz figure known as a dual-threat trumpeter and pianist. From the Libertango album’s recordings—the Conjunto Electronico era works—reconstructed with contemporary technology and music theory (Piazzolla himself once said, “this project was a failure”), a Reiwa-era reinterpretation of Piazzolla unfolds.
