Overview
Richard Carpenter, the man who has given the world timeless Carpenters classics, makes his first-ever appearance to commemorate Billboard Live’s 15th anniversary. He blossomed as a musician from a young age and debuted in 1969 with the Carpenters, a duo formed with his sister Karen. After releasing “A Kind of Hush,” he shot to stardom and became a defining figure in 1970s pop. Since then, songs such as “Yesterday Once More,” “Superstar,” and “Top of the World” have continued to captivate listeners around the world, their music remaining as fresh as ever. Moreover, he has earned high praise as a composer and arranger, having been nominated six times for the Grammy Award for Best Arrangement. In October 2021, he released Piano Songbook, a solo piano album and his first new work in 23 years. With his Japan visit approaching, Richard’s daughters Tracey and Mindy will join as vocalists for this performance. From the Carpenters’ era-defining repertoire, they will sing Karen’s parts.
