"My Last Song" ~A Song Left Behind for Me by Kuze-san~
Mariko Hamada (vocals, piano) × Kyoko Koizumi (reading)
Mariko Hamada×Kyoko Koizumi
Overview
As a director, Kuze Mitsuhiko brought forth many classic dramas such as “It’s Time” and “The Terauchi Kandarō Family,” and while also active as a lyricist, novelist, and essayist, he died suddenly in 2006. Kyoko Koizumi, who calls him her mentor, and singer–songwriter Mariko Hamada have been presenting since 2008 a stage that conveys the world of the essay “My Last Song” — about the songs Kuze wrote for fourteen years and the songs he wished to hear at the moment of life’s end — through Hamada’s piano and vocals and Koizumi’s readings. The Billboard Live performance this time marks the first in about five years. A gem of a night where nostalgic Showa-era classics and the feelings Kuze Mitsuhiko penned about those songs are quietly and gently etched into the heart.
