Overview
Dominican Republic-born legendary pianist Michel Camilo, renowned for his outstanding sense of rhythm and overwhelming technique, who has been active in both jazz and classical fields, has decided to hold a rare solo performance at Billboard Live! Born in 1954 in Santo Domingo, Camilo was hailed as a child prodigy from an early age and became a pianist representing his homeland in his teens. He moved to the United States in 1979, and his original composition "Why Not" caught the eye when it was picked up by Manhattan Transfer, bringing him to prominence. His 1988 major-debut album, Michel Camilo, spent eight consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Jazz chart. In 2000, he won a Latin Grammy Award for the collaboration "Spain" with flamenco guitarist Tomatito, and in 2003 and 2006 he received Grammy Awards. Don’t miss this premium stage where you can experience Camilo’s virtuoso playing up close—the epitome of his artistry across jazz, Latin, and classical genres.
