Takeshi Obayashi, a bassist who crosses national and genre borders through collaborations with José James and Takaya Kuroda and who serves as MISIA’s bandleader, is a Grammy Award winner with the Pat Metheny Unity Band. Ben Williams, a technically proficient bassist known for collaborations with Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and Sadao Watanabe. Nate Smith, a powerhouse drummer known for countless high-profile collaborations—from writing songs for Michael Jackson to working with Paul Simon and Norah Jones—and for his own project “KINFOLK,” which has earned two Grammy nominations. The three trailblazers leading the music scene gather in Japan for a rare moment.
