Tadataka Unno & Masaki Hayashi

Overview

Masaki Umino, who made his first appearance at Billboard Live Osaka last year and delivered a stunning performance, appears on the Yokohama stage. He has been active as a musician since he was 18 while studying at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and moved to New York in 2008. Loved by jazz legends such as Hank Jones and Jimmy Cobb, he became the first Japanese and the last regular member of the Roy Hargrove Quintet. In September 2020, in New York during the COVID-19 era, he fell victim to an anti-Asian hate crime and sustained serious injuries, but with an indomitable spirit and relentless rehabilitation he made a remarkable comeback. His assured comeback work “Get My Mojo Back” has moved and inspired people around the world, and won the Best Original Work Award in the Popular category at the 35th Music PEN Club Music Awards in 2022. For this stage, after contributing to studio work for a wide range of artists including Jun Miyake and Ringo Sheena, he will collaborate for the first time with pianist Masaki Hayashi, who captivates audiences with a distinctive musical world spanning jazz, world, and ambient. Don’t miss this exquisite night as two highly regarded artists bring you the sound of New York, the heartland of jazz.
