Guiba, a band that gathers leading musicians in the domestic indie scene, has announced a Billboard Live performance. In 2016, they appeared on the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL’s <ROOKIE A GO-GO> stage, and since then have been actively expanding their activities abroad and at home, touring China and Taiwan among other efforts. Led by Akatsuka (Vo./Gt.), who runs the alternative rock band South Penguin, and joined by Taiki Kumagai (Gt.) of Helsinki Lambda Club / Group2, Shake Sofian (Ba.) of odol, and Takumi Isobe (Dr.), who has been backing South Penguin, the group formed in the summer of 2022. Debut track “Ai no Nidan-kai Right Turn” (Love’s Two-Stage Right Turn), which Akatsuka says was inspired by Nogizaka Under Construction (TV Tokyo), marked the start of a catalog centered on “vocal-driven pop.” In October 2023 they released their first album, Giba, and in January this year they held a release party featuring the cutting-edge art rock band Khaki as a guest. Guiba’s first-ever headlining show will feature singer-songwriter Mashinomi as guest vocalist, at Billboard Live, a venue where top domestic and international artists perform.
