GoGo Penguin
Overview
GoGo Penguin, the next-generation piano trio whose unique "dancing jazz" has been turning the world on its head, has announced their first-ever Japan performances at Billboard Live. They began live activities mainly at clubs in their hometown of Manchester and released the album FANFARES on a Manchester indie label in 2012. In the same year, Gilles Peterson featured it as the Best Jazz Album on his popular show, and it was included in his own compilation, sparking attention.
Their second album, V2.0, released in 2014, was nominated for the UK’s prestigious Mercury Prize, drawing worldwide attention, and from there they have consistently released new works and become a sought-after act at music festivals around the world, leading up to their latest Everything Is Going to Be OK. While rooted in jazz, they draw strong influences from classical composers like Chopin, modern composers such as Brian Eno and John Cage, and from dance music including Aphex Twin and Underworld, as well as techno, drum’n’bass, electronica, post-rock, and dubstep. They perform this "dancing jazz" on acoustic instruments in an “acoustic-electronica trio” style, delivering a stunning performance that all music fans should not miss.
〈Artist's Comment〉
We’re very happy to announce that we’ll be returning to Japan in March 2025 to perform shows at Billboard Live Yokohama and Billboard Live Tokyo.
Whenever we play in Japan, we always have a wonderful experience, and we can’t wait to come back to perform for you all. The Yokohama show will be our first, and the performance at Billboard Live Tokyo will also be our first.
With love, GGP
