Seaside Premium Cruising @YOKOHAMA, a back-to-back bill featuring two scene-stealing, rising acts. In its second edition, two boundary-crossing groups will take the stage.

First up is Skaai, born in Virginia and raised in Oita Prefecture, whose journey spans from graduate student to rapper. He captivates listeners by deftly using Japanese, English, and Korean, and this time he appears in a band setup. On guitar is Yuya Saito, Skaai’s ally with whom he also forms the unit TRIPPYHOUSING; on bass is Keity from brkfstblend, whose sultry, supple low end colors the space; on drums is So Kanno, also active in BREIMEN; and on DJ duties is producer uin, a longtime collaborator who helps anchor a lineup of key figures in youth-generation alternative music.

The second act hails from Kyoto: Black petrol, a six-piece group rooted in Black music that reinterprets club sounds in a distinctive, nerdy-hard style. They’ve played at major festivals such as Summer Sonic and Fuji Rock, as well as China’s largest festivals. In January they released the EP Insomniac Reveries, expressing the band’s past and future, and they are now hard at work on a new release—the first since the lineup change. With members fluent in a variety of genres since university days, their high level of musicianship and performance is not to be missed.
