Overview
In 1984, she made her screen debut as the heroine in the film "パンツの穴," and in the same year she debuted as a singer in "青春のいじわる." This year, Momoko Kikuchi, who is celebrating her 40th anniversary since debut, makes her first appearance on the Billboard Live stage! She rose to fame as an idol, and in 1985, at the then-record youngest age for a concert—17—she successfully performed at Nippon Budokan. Furthermore, the single released that year, "卒業-GRADUATION-," marked her first No.1 on the Oricon Weekly Chart, and since then she has achieved No.1 on the Oricon Weekly for seven consecutive releases. Since debuting as an idol singer, she has won numerous awards, including the 26th Japan Record Award New Artist Award, the Japan Record Sales Award, and the Elan d'Or New Artist Award. The worldview created by the composer Tetsuji Hayashi, who was responsible for almost all of her songs at the time, was unusual for 80s idol songs, but in recent years it has been reevaluated due to the overseas boom of Japanese city pop. Furthermore, in July 2021, all of her songs from that era were released on music streaming services, and she has been featured in Night Tempo's popular re-edit series "Showa Grooves," captivating listeners across generations and borders, so enjoy her songs to your heart's content.
