Mika Strutzman, a marimba player born in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, who has earned praise from numerous artists including Chick Corea and Steve Reich. She and drummer Steve Gadd met, and from their meeting the “Mikarinba” was born, launching a Billboard Live Tour. Mika has studied with the percussion group Nexus since 1994. After performing in Toronto, she based herself in New York, where she learned jazz technique from Mike Mainieri. For this edition, in addition to her, the project brings in the classical world’s foremost figure (clarinetist) Richard Stoltzman, Eddie Gomez, and Tetsu Shioya—the strongest lineup in the project’s history.
