Overview
Dominican-born legendary pianist Michel Camilo, who has distinguished himself in both jazz and classical fields with an exceptional sense of rhythm and overwhelming technique, is set to present a rare solo performance at Billboard Live! Born in 1954 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Camilo was hailed as a child prodigy and became a pianist representing his homeland in his teens. He moved to the United States in 1979, and his original composition “Why Not” was picked up by The Manhattan Transfer, bringing him into the spotlight. His 1988 major-label debut, Michel Camilo, topped the Billboard Jazz chart for eight consecutive weeks. In 2000, his co-composition “Spain” with flamenco guitarist Tomatito won the Latin Grammy Award, and he won Grammy Awards in 2003 and 2006. Don’t miss this premium performance, where you can experience Camilo’s virtuosic playing up close—the epitome of his work across jazz, Latin, and classical genres.
