Accordion maestro coba returns to Billboard Live. Based on techniques learned in Venice, he captivates audiences with a musical sensibility that crosses genres—classical, rock, and pop. With European CD releases, chart-topping success, and participation in a world tour on Björk’s invitation, the music has drastically changed the image of the accordion in the pop music world and is now said to have become its own music genre, sometimes referred to as “coba.” In recognition of his achievements, in 2017 he received Japan’s first honorary citizenship from the city of Castelfidardo in Italy, a city also known as the “Holy Land of the Accordion.” Having just celebrated the 30th anniversary of his debut last year, what tones will the accordion reveal at Billboard Live?
