Kazuma Miura Electronic Sextet
Kazuma Miura / Yasunao Ishida / Mao Sone
Overview
Kazuma Miura Electronic Sextet, the music project led by one of the world’s top bandoneon players and drawing attention as the Taiga chronicle star of NHK’s new taiga drama Reach for the Sky, makes its Billboard Live debut. An extraordinary virtuoso who has pursued the ideal musical ensemble pays tribute to Piazzolla’s “music” and its “lifetime,” and a new music project began in 2024.
Leading the lineup is Kazuma Miura, a student of Néstor Marconi—regarded as the pinnacle of bandoneon playing and the first Japanese and youngest-ever runner-up at the 2008 International Piazzolla Competition—joined by violinist Yasunao Ishida, a prize-winner and the “face of the Kanagawa Philharmonic,” who serves as Principal Solo Concertmaster of the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra; Mao Sone, a trumpeter and pianist who excels as a jazz double-threat and is in high demand as a supporting musician and session host for many artists; and a highly anticipated young musician with classical roots who is expanding across multiple fields.
From Piazzolla’s Tango reforms in Buenos Aires to a project conceived around his Italian roots—from recording the Libertango album to forming Conjunto Electronico (Electronic Ensemble)—Piazzolla, who once quipped that “this project was a failure” about several of these works, is now elevating them by blending them with modern technology and theory. The electro-project has finally begun.
Don’t miss the summer’s opportunity to hear a Reiwa-era revival of Piazzolla’s famous motifs on the Billboard Live stage.
