Three-piece rock band from Ōita, SIX LOUNGE, makes their Billboard Live debut. Formed in 2012 around Yamaguchi Yuumori (guitar/vocals) and Nagamatsu Shintaro (drums), their current lineup was completed in 2015 when Iwao Riku (bass) joined. That same year they joined the indie label THE NINTH APOLLO, which has produced acts like My Hair is Bad and Hump Back, and in April 2018 they made their major debut on Universal Music’s ZEN MUSIC. They craft a rock ’n’ roll sound that blends melodies imbued with a melancholic, pop-song sensibility with Yamaguchi’s emotionally charged vocals, incorporating a wide range of influences while staying true to a core sound. They have appeared at numerous major music festivals, and their headlining tours have sold out repeatedly, quickly making them a leading presence in Japan’s rock scene. In 2022, marking their 10th anniversary, they announced their move to Sony Music Labels, and they have also worked on anime tie-ins such as My Hero Academia and BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War. The track “Rika,” from their 2016 album Shinonome, has in recent years sparked a social-media viral wave, even topping Billboard Japan’s “TikTok Weekly Top 20,” drawing renewed attention as a signature track. They continue to be actively engaged and to broaden the possibilities of Japanese-language rock, and their latest stage is a precious club performance delivered in an acoustic lineup.
